Description
Peppermint is thought to be a naturally occurring hybrid between spearmint and watermint. The plant is hearty and robust, able to grow in almost every climate and geographical location. Peppermint is one of the two most popular forms of mint (the other is spearmint), and, of the two, peppermint has a more pronounced, assertive and almost peppery flavor – hence the name – and is also the variety most often used for culinary purposes. Peppermint leaves have several uses: they can be steeped to make a refreshing and soothing herbal tea, infused in simple syrups for a variety of beverages, including cocoa and cocktails, or used to make jellies and sweets. Peppermint leaves can also be used in savory dishes, where they are traditionally paired with lamb or chicken, as well as root vegetables like potatoes and carrots. They are also featured in Middle-Eastern dishes like tabbouleh. Naturally vegan and gluten-free.
